Medication Management for Essex Junction, VT

Harborside Psychiatrics is based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and delivers care by video across New England, including Vermont. That distance is deliberate. It lets a small team of prescribers spend real time with each person, rather than filling a schedule built around a single office.

Essex Junction is Burlington’s largest suburb and one of the more educated, professional communities in the state. People here tend to research their options before they call anyone, and they tend to want a clinician who explains reasoning rather than rushing to a prescription pad. That fits how Harborside works. It is also worth saying plainly: under Vermont law, this practice does not prescribe stimulant medications or benzodiazepines, and this page does not cover those categories.

Medication Management for people in Essex Junction, VT

Appointments happen over live video, using a secure platform that works from a laptop, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and a stable internet connection. You do not need to download special software ahead of time or drive anywhere in Chittenden County. You log in from home, from an office, or from anywhere private.

An initial appointment usually runs longer than a follow-up, because there is more ground to cover: history, current symptoms, past medication trials, and what you are hoping will change. Follow-up appointments are shorter and scheduled at an interval your prescriber sets based on how you are doing, often more frequent early on and spacing out over time.

If a medication is appropriate, your prescriber sends it electronically to a pharmacy you choose in or near Essex Junction, the same way most prescriptions move today. You pick it up locally. There is no shipping and no separate mail-order step.

Harborside is based in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts. There is no local office in Essex Junction or anywhere in Vermont. Every appointment is delivered by video, and that is the entire model, not a substitute for something else.

How telehealth care actually works

Medication management at Harborside addresses conditions like depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive patterns, mood instability, and the psychiatric symptoms that can accompany eating disorders. Appointments also cover general functional psychiatry concerns, things like sleep, energy, concentration, and how a medication regimen interacts with the rest of a person’s health. The goal of each visit is to understand what you are experiencing and to talk through options, not to move through a checklist.

What we treat

The first appointment is a full evaluation. Your prescriber will ask about your current symptoms, when they started, what you have already tried, and any medical history that matters for prescribing decisions. You will talk about your goals for care and what has or has not worked before. By the end of the appointment, you and your prescriber should have a shared plan, whether that involves a medication, a period of monitoring, a referral to therapy, or some combination.

You should come with a list of current medications and supplements, and it helps to have contact information for your pharmacy ready.

What the first appointment involves

Medication management and functional psychiatry at Harborside are performed by psychiatric nurse practitioners: Rachel Egan, RN PMHNP-BC, who is also Harborside’s clinical director, Emily Pardue, RN PMHNP-BC, and Kirstin Ritchie, RN PMHNP-BC. Each is qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe for mental health conditions, within the scope permitted in Vermont. Full bios and credentials for each of them are on the team page.

Therapy and eating disorder care are delivered by Harborside’s licensed therapy team: Hannah Legesse, LICSW, Tori Mahoney, LMHC, Jacquelyn Duford, LCMHC, ATR, and Lexie Carchedi, LCSW. Some patients see a prescriber only. Others work with a prescriber and a therapist together, depending on what they need.

Who our clinicians are

Harborside is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly for appointments. Current fees for an initial appointment and for follow-up visits are listed on the pricing page. If you have questions about cost, you can ask before anything is booked.

What it costs

If you are in Essex Junction and want to talk with a prescriber about medication management, the next step is scheduling an initial appointment. You can review clinician backgrounds, ask about availability, and confirm fees before you commit to anything. Care happens entirely by video, so there is nothing to arrange beyond a quiet place and a working internet connection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a diagnosis already to book an appointment?

No. The first appointment includes a full evaluation, so a prior diagnosis isn’t required to get started.

Yes, with your permission. Many patients keep an existing therapist and use Harborside only for medication management.

It depends on the medication and how you’re responding to it. Some patients are seen monthly at first, then less often once things are stable.

Prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice, the same as they would be after an in-person visit.

Harborside is private-pay and doesn’t bill insurance directly. A superbill is available for out-of-network reimbursement, where a plan allows it.

That’s part of ongoing management. Changes are discussed and made together at a follow-up visit, not on your own.
