Therapy for Barnstable Village, MA

Barnstable Village runs on a different clock than the beach towns down the road. The harbor, the courthouse, the old sea captains’ houses along Route 6A: this is a year-round community, not a summer stage set. People here tend to be retirees who chose the village for its quiet, small-business owners whose income swings hard between July and January, and families who juggle a school calendar that does not care what season the tourists think it is. Therapy that works here has to bend around that rhythm rather than assume a 9-to-5 life that most residents do not actually have.

Harborside is based just up the road in Yarmouth Port, and therapy is delivered by video with a licensed clinician who works with you to choose an approach that fits your life, not a fixed protocol applied the same way to everyone.

Therapy for people in Barnstable Village, MA

Sessions happen over live video, using a secure platform you can join from a computer, tablet, or smartphone. You need a private space and a stable internet connection. That is the whole technical bar. No app to install ahead of time, no separate account to manage.

A typical therapy session runs about 45 minutes. Frequency depends on what you and your clinician agree fits the situation: many people start weekly and adjust from there, whether that means spacing sessions out or, for a period, meeting more often. For clients who also work with one of our prescribers, medication questions and prescriptions are handled the same way, by video, with prescriptions sent electronically to a pharmacy near you, including pharmacies serving Barnstable Village and the surrounding villages.

Harborside is based in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, and delivers care by video across the state, including here in Barnstable Village. There is no in-person office to travel to. The appointment happens wherever you are, on a schedule built around the two very different halves of a Cape year.

How telehealth care actually works

Therapy at Harborside addresses the concerns that bring most adults and adolescents to treatment: anxiety, depression, mood changes tied to life transitions, grief, trauma, relationship strain, and the particular stress of running a seasonal business or adjusting to retirement in a place where the pace of life shifts twice a year. We also work with eating disorders, body image concerns, and disordered eating patterns, through the licensed therapy team.

For clients who need medication alongside therapy, our prescribers evaluate and treat conditions including anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, and other mental health conditions, in coordination with your therapist when both are part of your care.

What we treat

The first session is a conversation, not a form to fill out alone. Your clinician asks about what brought you in, your history, and what you are hoping care will address. There is no assumption you already know the right diagnosis or the right approach. That gets worked out together, over the first session or two, and adjusted as needed.

You will also talk through logistics: how often you want to meet, what has helped or not helped before, and whether medication management should be part of the picture. If it should, your therapist can coordinate with one of our psychiatric nurse practitioners so the two pieces of care talk to each other instead of running separately.

What the first appointment involves

Medication management and functional psychiatry at Harborside are performed by psychiatric nurse practitioners Rachel Egan, RN PMHNP-BC, who is also the practice’s clinical director, Emily Pardue, RN PMHNP-BC, and Kirstin Ritchie, RN PMHNP-BC. Each is qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe for mental health conditions. Full bios and credentials for each clinician are on the team page.

Therapy and eating disorder work are delivered by the licensed therapy team: Hannah Legesse, LICSW, Tori Mahoney, LMHC, Jacquelyn Duford, LCMHC ATR and a registered art therapist, and Lexie Carchedi, LCSW. Between them, the team brings different clinical approaches, so the person you’re matched with is chosen based on what fits your situation, not the only option available.

Who our clinicians are

Harborside is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly for appointments. Current fees for an initial and a follow-up appointment are listed on the pricing page. If you have questions about cost, you can ask before anything is booked.

What it costs

You can request an appointment online or reach out with questions first. Once you’re scheduled, you’ll fill out a short intake before your first video session so your clinician has some background going in. There is no waiting room, no drive to Yarmouth Port, and no need to take a half day off from a business or a household to make it to an appointment. You show up to a video call, from wherever you are in Barnstable Village or nearby.

If anxiety is part of what you’re dealing with, our anxiety treatment page goes into more detail on that specific work.

Is therapy with Harborside the same as seeing a psychiatrist?

No. Harborside’s therapists are licensed clinicians who provide psychotherapy, not psychiatric prescribers. Anyone who also wants medication management can be connected separately with one of Harborside’s psychiatric nurse practitioners.
