Medication Management for Newport, RI

Harborside is physically located on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, but the team delivers medication management by video to clients across New England, including Newport. Newport runs on tide schedules, sailing seasons, and a mix of families who have been on the island for generations alongside people who moved to the coast for the water and stayed. That local identity matters when you are deciding who to trust with something as personal as your mental health care, even when the appointment happens over a screen instead of in a waiting room.

Because Harborside is licensed to provide care in Rhode Island, we’re able to offer medication management to people in Newport, Middletown, and the surrounding island communities without you needing to travel off Aquidneck Island to find a prescriber who takes the time to know your history.

Medication Management for people in Newport, RI

Medication management at Harborside happens over live video, not phone calls or messaging apps. You will need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a private, stable internet connection. A quiet room where you can talk without being overheard makes a real difference in how useful the appointment is.

Harborside is based in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, and our clinicians see patients across the New England states where we are licensed, Rhode Island among them. A typical initial evaluation runs longer than a follow-up, since your prescriber needs time to understand your history, current symptoms, and any medications you have already tried. Follow-up appointments are shorter and are scheduled at an interval your prescriber sets based on how you are doing and whether any medication changes are being made.

If a medication is prescribed, it is sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choosing near you in Newport or wherever you fill prescriptions locally. You pick it up the way you would with any other prescription. There is no in-person office visit built into this process at any point.

How telehealth care actually works

People come to Harborside for medication management around anxiety, depression, mood changes, sleep difficulty, and the kind of persistent stress that has started to affect daily functioning, work, or relationships. Some patients are looking for an initial evaluation to understand what they are dealing with. Others already have a diagnosis and want ongoing management from a prescriber who checks in regularly and adjusts a plan as things change.

Because Rhode Island law does not permit our clinicians to prescribe controlled substances here, medication management through Harborside in Newport centers on non-controlled psychiatric medications used for conditions like depression and anxiety. Your prescriber will talk through what options exist for your specific situation during your evaluation.

What we treat

Your first visit is an evaluation, not a quick prescription check. Your prescriber will ask about your current symptoms, your health and medication history, anything you have tried before, and what has and has not worked. Expect questions about sleep, appetite, energy, and how symptoms show up in daily life, not just what they feel like in the moment.

By the end of the appointment, you and your prescriber should have a shared understanding of what is going on and a plan for what comes next, whether that includes a medication, a referral to one of Harborside’s therapists, or both. Nothing is decided without you.

What the first appointment involves

Medication management and functional psychiatry at Harborside are performed by psychiatric nurse practitioners: Rachel Egan, RN PMHNP-BC, who is also Harborside’s clinical director, Emily Pardue, RN PMHNP-BC, and Kirstin Ritchie, RN PMHNP-BC. Each is qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe for mental health conditions. Full bios and credentials for each clinician are available on the team page.

Therapy is delivered by Harborside’s licensed therapy team: Hannah Legesse, LICSW, Tori Mahoney, LMHC, Jacquelyn Duford, LCMHC ATR, and Lexie Carchedi, LCSW. If your care plan includes therapy alongside medication management, you will be working with one of these clinicians directly.

Who our clinicians are

Harborside is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly for appointments. Current fees for an initial and a follow-up appointment are listed on the pricing page, and any questions about cost can be answered before you book anything.

What it costs

If you are in Newport and thinking about medication management, the next step is scheduling an initial evaluation. You can look through clinician bios on the team page first if you would like to know more about who you might be working with before you book. Sessions take place by video from wherever you are, so there is nothing to coordinate around an office location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a diagnosis already to book an appointment?

No. The first appointment includes a full evaluation, so a prior diagnosis isn’t required to get started.

Yes, with your permission. Many patients keep an existing therapist and use Harborside only for medication management.

It depends on the medication and how you’re responding to it. Some patients are seen monthly at first, then less often once things are stable.

Prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice, the same as they would be after an in-person visit.

Harborside is private-pay and doesn’t bill insurance directly. A superbill is available for out-of-network reimbursement, where a plan allows it.

That’s part of ongoing management. Changes are discussed and made together at a follow-up visit, not on your own.
