Harborside Psychiatrics is a private-pay practice offering medication management and therapy by video, for people across Massachusetts and other parts of New England. Our psychiatric nurse practitioners and licensed therapists work with adults managing anxiety, depression, mood conditions, eating disorders, and other mental health concerns. We do not bill insurance directly for appointments.
This page explains what that means, why the practice is built this way, and what to know about cost before you book.
We work with patients across Massachusetts and, depending on the service, several other New England states. Two kinds of care are available:
Which service is available in your state depends on licensing. The table further down spells this out.
Being private pay is a deliberate choice.
When a practice bills insurance directly, session length, frequency, and sometimes the type of treatment offered can be shaped by what a specific plan will cover. Diagnosis and treatment decisions can end up tied to what an insurer classifies as medically necessary, rather than what you and your clinician think is the right next step.
At Harborside, appointment length and frequency are set between you and your clinician, based on what you’re working on. Treatment decisions are made in the room.
Harborside is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly for appointments. Current fees for an initial appointment and a follow-up appointment are listed on our pricing page, and any questions about cost can be answered before you book anything.
Medication management and functional psychiatry are performed by psychiatric nurse practitioners:
Each is qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe for mental health conditions.
Therapy, including eating disorder care, is delivered by our licensed therapy team:
Full bios and credentials for each clinician are on our team page.
Appointments happen through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You’ll receive a link by email before each session. No separate app download is required for most visits — you join from a browser on a computer, tablet, or phone.
What you need on your end:
Your first appointment runs longer than a routine follow-up, to allow time for a full evaluation or intake. If medication is part of your care, your prescriber sends it electronically to the pharmacy of your choice, and follow-up appointments are where dosing and any adjustments get discussed.
If your clinician determines that you need a higher level of care than we provide, such as inpatient treatment, a partial hospitalization program, or intensive outpatient care, they will talk with you directly and help you understand your options for getting connected to that level of support.
Licensure determines where each type of care can be delivered. Here’s the current breakdown:
| Service | MA | CT | RI | NH | VT | ME |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Therapy | Available | Available | Available | Available | Available | Available |
| Medication management | Available | Available | Available | Available | Available | Available |
| Controlled medication management | Available | Available | Not available | Not available | Not available | Not available |
If you’re not sure what this means for your situation, ask before booking. We’re glad to walk through it with you.
