Therapy for Hyannis, MA

Hyannis runs on two different clocks. There is the summer version, crowded with ferry traffic and seasonal jobs, and there is the rest of the year, when year-round households settle back into routines built around school schedules, off-season work, and the quieter rhythm of a Cape town that actually lives here. Therapy that fits that reality has to bend around shift work at the harbor, a business that closes for the winter, or a retirement that still has bills and worries attached to it. Harborside is based just up the road in Yarmouth Port, and our clinicians work with people across Hyannis using an approach chosen for the person, not a fixed protocol applied to everyone the same way.

Therapy for people in Hyannis, MA

Harborside is based in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, and delivers therapy entirely by video. You do not travel to an office. You need a private space, a phone or computer with a camera, and a stable internet connection. Sessions typically run about 45 to 50 minutes, and most people meet with their therapist weekly or every other week, adjusted over time based on what is going on in their life.

If a client also works with one of our prescribers for medication management, appointments are scheduled separately from therapy, and any prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy of the client’s choosing, including pharmacies in and around Hyannis. Scheduling is handled online, and both morning and afternoon appointment times are generally available across the week, which matters for anyone working a seasonal job with a schedule that shifts month to month.

How telehealth care actually works

Our therapy team works with adults dealing with anxiety, depression, mood changes, stress connected to work or family, grief, life transitions, and eating disorders. Some clients come in with a clear diagnosis already in hand. Others come in only knowing that something feels off and they want to talk it through with someone qualified to help them figure out what is going on. Both are appropriate reasons to schedule a first appointment.

Therapy at Harborside is not one method applied to every client. Depending on what a person needs, a clinician might draw on talk therapy, cognitive behavioral approaches, or art therapy. The starting point is always a conversation about what the client is experiencing and what kind of support fits their life right now.

The first appointment is mostly conversation. Your clinician will ask about what brought you in, your history, and what you are hoping will be different. There is no test to pass and nothing to prepare in advance beyond showing up ready to talk. By the end of that first session, you and your clinician should have a general sense of what ongoing sessions will focus on and how often you will meet.

What the first appointment involves

Medication management and functional psychiatry at Harborside are performed by psychiatric nurse practitioners: Rachel Egan, RN PMHNP-BC, who is also Harborside’s clinical director, Emily Pardue, RN PMHNP-BC, and Kirstin Ritchie, RN PMHNP-BC. Each is qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe for mental health conditions, including, where clinically appropriate, medications for conditions such as ADHD. Full bios and credentials for each of them are on the team page.

Therapy and eating disorder care are delivered by our licensed therapy team: Hannah Legesse, LICSW, Tori Mahoney, LMHC, Jacquelyn Duford, LCMHC, ATR, and Lexie Carchedi, LCSW. Jacquelyn is also a registered art therapist, which she draws on with clients for whom a more creative approach is useful. Every clinician on the team holds an active Massachusetts license and works with clients across the Cape by video.

Who our clinicians are

Harborside is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly for appointments. Current fees for an initial appointment and for follow-up sessions are listed on the pricing page, and any questions about cost can be answered before you book anything.

What it costs

You can request an appointment online. Once you are scheduled, you will complete some brief intake paperwork ahead of your first video session. From there, your clinician will work with you on a schedule that fits your week, whether that is a set weekly time or something more flexible around seasonal work. For a fuller look at how therapy works across our practice, see the therapy services page. If you are looking for care elsewhere on the Cape, our Cape Cod region page and Massachusetts telehealth page cover the towns and details specific to this state. If anxiety is a primary concern, our anxiety treatment page goes into more detail on that specific approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy with Harborside the same as seeing a psychiatrist?

No. Harborside’s therapists are licensed clinicians who provide psychotherapy, not psychiatric prescribers. Anyone who also wants medication management can be connected separately with one of Harborside’s psychiatric nurse practitioners.

Most clients meet weekly or every other week, depending on what’s agreed with the therapist during the first few sessions.

No. Harborside is a private-pay practice. Clients with out-of-network mental health benefits can request a superbill to submit to their insurer for possible reimbursement.

That’s a reasonable place to start. Many clients begin therapy without a specific problem in mind, and the first session is built around figuring that out together.

Yes. Finding the right therapist sometimes takes more than one try, and raising it is a normal part of the process, not something awkward.

No. Therapy is ongoing, scheduled care, not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For crisis support, call or text 988.
